UNF and JU Collaborate of State of the St Johns River Report

UNF Faculty from Chemistry, Biology, and Engineering are part of a grant funded for two years by the City of Jacksonville Environment Protection Board (EPB). The project focuses on surveying the health of the St Johns River though interrogation of the historical river data. The first report, due in summer 2008, will report on the historical health of the river and where the river stands today. UNF participants are:-

  • Dr. Pat Welsh, Advanced Weather Information Systems Lab, College of Engineering (co-PI)
  • Dr. Ray Bowman, Director the UNF Environmental Center/Department of Chemistry
  • Dr. Stuart Chalk, Department of Chemistry
  • Dr. Gretchen Bielmyer, Department of Biology
  • Dr. Kelly Smith, Department of Biology
  • Dr. Dale Cassamatta, Department of Biology
  • Dr. Stephen Nix, College of Engineering

In Chemistry Dr. Bowman and Dr Chalk are working on evaluating water quality data to understand historical trends from over 2 million EPA data records.
