New Varian 500 MHz NMR Up and Running

This summer the new Varian VNMRS 500 MHz Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectrometer (NMR) installation was completed (solids). Five chemistry faculty attended training in August so that use of the NMR can be integrated into several undergraduate classes such as Organic II, Advanced Organic, Physical Chemistry II, and Modern Analytical Chemistry. Dr. Jyotsna Pradhan has already been using the NMR for 19F research experiments over the summer and commented recently that the quality of the spectra were "amazing".

The new NMR, a state-of the-art MRI for molecules, was purchased through a generous donation from Vistakon, a divison of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care. Vistakon donated $300,000 to the UNF Science and Engineering building fund which was matched 100% by the State of Florida through the Coretlis Match program. For more information on the new NMR go the instrumentation page.
